English

At Moorooduc, our studies in the Key Learning Area of English sees the students actively involved in reading, viewing, writing, comparing and talking about texts. A comprehensive program offers many varied and interesting experiences designed to encourage the exploration of an extensive range of literature from our own and other cultures. Children are encouraged to think critically about their world and the global community. The students are then able utilise texts they read and listen to as resources in creating and constructing their pieces.

Our English Program, in accordance with VELS ensures the dedication of at least two hours per day focussing on the areas of Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. Children are emersed in a range of rich literacy experiences to broaden and confirm their understanding of the English Language. Sessions see small groups of children, with like needs brought together by the teacher for focussed teaching. The Reading Recovery Program, which targets Grade One students, is employed to help those challenged by literacy in the classroom setting.

During daily Literacy Groups, students work on individual tasks whilst the classroom teacher spends time with the Guided Reading Group.
