The Moorooduc 3/4 Choir performed at
the 2006 Tyabb Carols in the Park
At
Moorooduc the Performing Arts involves a combination of musical and
dramatic activities, usually delivered by the classroom teacher. Children are encouraged to perform dances, songs and plays before
their classmates, Monday Morning Assembly or at the School Concert. The Music Program is enhanced by visits from the wider community
such as The Victorian Police including their enormously entertaining
Pipe Band, The Navy and local schools. Youth choirs frequently
visit and ask students to join their programs.
In Term Three 2006 Moorooduc
introduced the children in Grades Prep, One and Two to a one hour weekly music session,
delivered by the fabulous Sue. She revelled in sharing a range of
varied musical experiences with the children. With the support of the
classroom teacher the children sang, played instruments and
danced. She taught the children about where instruments such as a djembe or claves came from and the science behind music. In Term Four
Sue took her musical expertise to the children from years 3-6.
During Term Three
2006 we began the Grade Three/Four Choir. Each Friday at lunchtime we
gathered to have a fun time singing and playing
instruments together. We achieved our goal of singing before a large
audience late in December, when we performed three songs at the
Tyabb Carols in the Park. It was very exciting and not only did we
perform an encore, we were invited back to sing again next year!
Private instrumental
music lessons are offered to children in piano, guitar, saxophone
and flute at a reasonable cost.
Each year Moorooduc has
a School Concert. In the past this has been a lovely experience
shared with family and friends on the school oval. Of recent years,
due to inclement weather we have been performing at a local venue. The performance by the staff and children is nothing short of
extraordinary as the families will always concur and the whole
experience a joyful memory.
Several of the school’s
teachers find joy in aerobics and run lunchtime classes for all
students interested in joining the group.
Mr. Swayn, our Visual
Arts and P.E. Teacher often supports the music program through his
specialist areas. Children may make puppets during Art, learn
traditional dances or perform their own energetic routines to music.
The RACV Energy
Breakthrough requires students to create and perform an item about
their entry.
