Health and Physical Education Program

The Health and Physical Education Program at Moorooduc involves a 1 hour weekly session conducted by a specialist teacher and the incorporation of the subject within Integrated Studies. The program promotes the understanding and importance of a healthy lifestyle and general well being.

Specialist sessions are aimed at participation, enjoyment and skill development. Lessons focus on fundamental motor skills, athletics, gymnastics, major and minor games, dance and fitness.  Preps also participate in a weekly Perceptual Motor Program session, which develop co-ordination and spatial skills.

Our vast grounds include basketball and netball courts, bat tennis courts, an oval, a cricket pitch, playgrounds for juniors/seniors and a 300 metre running track that includes fitness stations.  Children have access to a range of sporting equipment during recess times.

At Moorooduc, we celebrate a healthy lifestyle by participating in Jump Rope for Heart and Walkathons, accessing appropriate excursions and incursions, running an exciting and diverse Swimming and Water Safety Program, entering into the RACV Energy Challenge and with visits from the Life Education Van.

The Swimming Program promotes a progressive introduction to swimming in open water.  P/1/2 participate in an Intensive program at Pelican Park, Hastings.  3/4 utilise the outdoor swimming pool at Crib Point for their intensive program.  Grade 5/6 participated in a three-day program at nearby beaches.  Near the end of the school year senior students participate in an Alternative Sports Program at various sporting venues in the local community such as squash, golf, roller blading, bowling and table tennis.

The children are encouraged to pursue sporting activities in their leisure times and their interests are wide and varied and include tennis, soccer, hockey, athletics, football, dance, cross country running and equestrian events.
