For many years now Moorooduc has supported a Japanese language program where students received a weekly one hour language sessions with a specialist teacher. Since our Japanese teacher took leave, our program has focused on developing confidence when learning a language and encouraging an appreciation various cultures. Special days such as Australia Day, Japan Day, Olympic Day and Commonwealth Countries Games Day, combined with cultural experiences like, cooking, origami and listening to traditional stories have helped achieve a healthy result. Acquiring expert teachers from New Zealand and England have also given the students an insight into their nearby neighbours and heritage. Moorooduc plans to continue a cultural enrichment program in 2007.
